My 1st attempt at a Birthday cake...

As much as I love baking cupcakes, I think that my favourite part is most definitely the decorating. In school I loved anything creative, Art, Product Design, anything that involved my imagination. Last year I started 'scrapbooking' in my spare time, but after a while I ran out of things to 'scrap' about...

I have come to the decision that as much as I love baking cupcakes I want to try and focus on bigger cakes, Birthdays, Weddings, Congratulation Cakes... all that sort of thing. Only problem is getting people to trust me with their money and their 'special day' enough to let me make them a cake. I know that this will be tricky and I'll have to prove that it's something I can do so I've decided to first make cakes for friends and relatives for freeeeee.

My first attempt at a Birthday cake I found in one of my baking books, I had a disaster trying to make a cake the right size. I bought 2 rectangle baking trays but no matter how much cake mixture I made they still hardly rose, this is something I'm going to have to master. My second problem I have since conquered but at the time I was non the wiser, I may sound like a complete amateur but I wasn't aware that there was a certain colouring that you used to colour fondant icing... so I used food colouring instead of colour paste, which was both messy and the colour wasn't that vibrant. Still I'd liked to see what you think for my first ever attempt at a Birthday cake...
